Magna Guard
Accessories
The Magna Guard is packaged with a blaster and electrostaff.
Look and Feel
The Maga Guard has a decent likeness to the on screen character. He comes with a soft goods cape looks accurate, but I just can't seem to get it to hang on the figure like it did on screen. The rubber cap that is on his head is a nice touch from Hasbro, but isn't excuted very well. For me the iconic part of the Magna Guard is his face. Those deep red eyes and the long "mouth area" for lack of a better term. On this figure it doesn't hit the mark. As far as the paint apps go I was left wanting more. The characters in the movie seem to have darkish carbon marks all over which this figure just doesn't deliver on. The elctrostaff is interesting with the clear tips to make the electricity seem slightly off the pole, but I just think the staff looks completely different from how it looks in the movie. The ends are not conical and I really don't see the need for those clear caps. Hasbro has been wrapping lightning on figures for years. The thing that bothers me the most, however, is the removable chest plate. It really is an interesting play value idea, but it pops off to easy and I can almost never get it to look like it is centered on his chest.
Articulation
The Magna Guard has ball-hinged joints in the neck, shoulders, torso, elbows and hips. He has hinged knees and ankles and swivel joints in the forearms.
Overall Reaction
I truly think that I built this figure up to be more that it is after viewing the Clone Wars figure. This Vintage version has less articulation then the cheaper priced Clone Wars line. I am not a fan of the clear caps that go on the electrostaff and the rubber cap and chest plate bother me to no end. I wish I could give a recommendation to buy or not to buy this figure, but I think that every fan will have to decide when they see this figure. I know people that absolutely adore this figure. Sadly I am not one of them.
